TOEFL Score Required for Canada Admission

TOEFL is accepted by all Canadian universities and is now only available as an internet-based test, as the paper-based version is no longer available.

The results of the iBT TOEFL are valid for two years, allowing students to apply to any university of their choice once the scores are released. The average required score for TOEFL by Canadian universities is usually between 80-100.

Note: A student may be exempt from taking the TOEFL if they have received a score of 670 or higher in the critical reading section of the old SAT exam, or have scored 35 or higher on the SAT Reading Test. Additionally, students who have completed at least four years of education in an English-speaking institution may also be exempt from taking the TOEFL.

IELTS Score for Canada Admission

IELTS is a widely recognized high-stakes English language test that assesses proficiency in four areas: Listening, Writing, Reading, and Speaking.

PTE for Admission in Canada

The PTE Academic exam is computer-based and evaluates the student’s abilities in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Before applying to universities in Canada, it is advisable for students to verify if taking the PTE exam is a requirement for their desired program.

What Requirements are Needed to Obtain a Master’s Degree in Canada?

The eligibility criteria for pursuing a master’s degree in Canada for international students can vary, as the program typically takes 1-2 years to complete.

There are two options for a master’s degree: the master’s by thesis, which requires the submission of a research project, and the master’s by non-thesis, which does not require a research thesis. The general requirements for a master’s program include:

  • 2-3 years of full-time work experience
  • Completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum average of 70%
  • Minimum GMAT score of 580-600
  • Minimum CBT score of 237-250, depending on the course
  • Minimum TOEFL PBT score of 580-600, depending on the course
  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6, as per the requirements of the course and institution

Some institutions may require written samples, copies of published work, or a portfolio.

What Requirements are needed to Obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Canada?

To study undergraduate courses in Canada, students are typically required to have completed 12th grade with a minimum of 70% in their final exams. Additionally, they should have studied math at the 12th-grade level.

The minimum required score for the TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) is 580-600 and for the computer-based test (CBT), it is 237-250, however, these requirements may vary depending on the specific course and university.

The Requirements for Diploma Programs in Canada

Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Canada usually takes three to four years. The four-year degree program comprises two years of foundational coursework and two years of specialized education.

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is expected to have a minimum score of 60% in their 12th-grade exams.

Additionally, a minimum score of 550 in TOEFL PBT and 213 in TOEFL CBT is required. The IELTS score should be 6 or 6.5 overall, depending on the institution and course requirements. Flexible admission policies are also available.

Requirements to Apply for Student Visa in Canada

The Study Permit is a document issued by Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC) that allows international students to study in Canada for a specified period of time.

  • The student must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not pose a threat to Canada’s security. In some cases, a police certificate may be required.
